  Early Map of Portageville, Wyoming Co., NY GENESEE FALLS (twp) - was formed from Pike and Portage, (Livingston co.,) April 1, 1846. It lies on Genesee River, in the S.E. corner of the co. A nearly perpendicular rocky bluff, 100 to 300 ft. high, borders upon the river, and from its summit the country spreads out into an undulating upland. The celibrated Portaage Falls, in the Genesee River, are opposite this place. The soil is a sandy and clayey loam. Portageville (p.v.) on Genesee River, contains 5 churches and several mills. Pop. 561, The B. & N. Y. City R. T. crosses the Genessee, near the village.

  Known as 'Abram' in all listings except in a (abt 1950) handwritten genealogy of Lucile Howell Jameson (I1436) on llined newsprint paper folded into a Howell family bible. 'Abram' was listed as 'Abraham Arnold', along with his siblings, as the youngest son of David & Keziah Howell, including his birth date. Of: Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY; Avon, Livingston Co., NY; & Portageville, Genesee Falls Twn., Wyoming Co., NY Military: Bugler - Enlisted December 12, 1863 in Rushford, NY Mustered out at Petersburg, VA on August 10, 1865. Promoted to full bugler January 12, 1864. Died: Cemetery listing Buried: Reinturned Hope Cemetery, Perry, NY

This church was on the grounds of what is now Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Pleasant Hill Road, Chester Twp., Morris Co., NJ. The church no longer exists having been abandoned in 1851 when the present Presbyterian Church on Main Street, Chester was erected.
